The Tanzanian island of Zanzibar experiences its short dry season between January and February, with temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius! December is equally warm, with occasional showers bringing relief from the intense heat. What better conditions for basking on the beach and swimming in the sea? A plane ticket to Zanzibar may be more than to Fuerteventura, however there is a huge range of accommodation options on the island, with something for every budget. An unforgettable and exotic holiday in Bali

The Indonesian archipelago of the Lesser Sunda Islands is a tropical paradise, and Bali is the jewel in the crown. In the winter period from January to the end of February, you can enjoy temperatures of up to 30 degrees, along with high humidity. Rain showers can be intense at this time of year, but are typically short-lived and occur mainly in the jungle at the island’s center.

Costs are higher to get here, however a trip to Indonesia presents the opportunity to explore even more, often quieter islands. Internal flights from Bali to Lombok, Komodo or Sumba are inexpensive and fast, taking just 30 minutes to Lombok, one hour 20 minutes to Komodo and one hour and 30 minutes to Sumba. These islands are far from the tourist hustle and have plenty of affordable accommodation options.

Summer in the middle of winter – spending time in Bali

For many visitors, Bali is synonymous with lounging on heavenly beaches by the azure sea in resorts such as Dreamland, Jimbaran, Kuta, Pandawa and Nusa Dua. There is also plenty of opportunity for sightseeing. The biggest attractions include the temples of Tanah Lot, Luhur Uluwatu and the Besakih and Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple complexes. Don’t miss the water palaces at Ujung and Tirta Gangga. If you want to capture iconic photos of Bali, head to the rice terraces near the villages of Tegallalang or Jatiluwih.

If you’re looking for relaxation, you’ll find it in the village of Ubud. Famous for its yoga courses, massages, wonderful Balinese cuisine and a monkey sanctuary, you’ll also find the temple of the Holy Source here, where you can take a cleansing bath. Do you prefer active breaks? Bali and the surrounding islands are great for, scuba diving, swimming under the most beautiful waterfalls in Sekumpul, and trekking – for example, at the Gunung Batur and Gunung Abang volcanoes. From Bali and Lombok, you can also take a boat trip to the picturesque Gili islets.
