Cool, adults-only vibes at PinkCoco, Uluwatu, Bali

Imagine a hot day in Bali sitting at the edge of an elegant pool, on a pink sunbed under a pink umbrella. All around you are pink buildings, a cloudless sky and the lush green of palm trees leaning over the water. Tranquillity reigns – nothing will disturb your relaxation, especially as this is a cool, adults-only resort.

It is easy to get lost in the pastel atmosphere. In your air-conditioned room, you will find a king-size bed with a canopy and a calming interior that opens directly onto the garden. Pamper yourself with a massage, a visit to the hotel’s hairdresser or spa. You can also dine at the local Asian restaurant or try the colourful (including pink!) cocktails at the hotel bar.

That’s not the end of Bali’s Barbiecore attractions. The trendiest colour of the season not only adorns the walls but also features on the menus of many establishments. Check out the popular Eat, Play & Love café, which serves pink lattes, as well as Kynd and Unicorn Café by Brie, with candy-coloured interiors that are perfect for Instagram. If you want to eat something pink, try Pink Tacos, where the Mexican dish has been given a Barbie makeover.

You should also take a trip to Lombok’spink beach. It owes its unusual colour to the presence of small pieces of red coral mixed into the white sand. It is one of just a few in the world – you canfind similar places elsewhere in Indonesia, including on the island of Komodo.

The Beverly Hills Hotel fits the Barbiecore trend perfectly. The pink at this elegant hotel is classy, not kitschy. Relax in the spacious, luxurious suites or by the tastefully landscaped pool with its manicured garden.

Once you’ve enjoyed this unique hotel in the heart of Beverly Hills, take a trip south to Palm Springs. After all, it was the architecture of this place, nestled between the desert and rocky mountains, that inspired the makers of the Barbie movie. Although mid-century modern is the dominant style, there are also gems of contemporary design. What all the buildings have in common are their pastel-coloured doors. You can admire them during the Palm Springs Door Tour, organised every year in February during Modernism Week.

Can’t wait? Ready-made maps and lists of places to visit are available online. Some of the most interesting places are That Pink Door (1099 East Sierra Way), The Red Door (1947 Cadiz Circle), The Magenta Door (1500 Lobo Way), That Yellow Door (2344 S Yosemite Drive) or The Baby Blue Door (1598 Circo Circle). There are so many colourful doors here that you’ll stop and take a picture at every turn.

Once you’ve soaked up the atmosphere of the hotel, explore Barbie’s world beyond its walls. The colourful town of La Orotava at the foot of the mountains is considered the most beautiful in all of Tenerife. The historic architecture looks great in pastel colours, faded by the sun, between narrow, steep streets. Wherever you look, you’ll find a backdrop for great photography.

The same is true of the colourful Barrio de la Ranilla, a district of the nearby seaside resort of Puerto de la Cruz. Blue, yellow, green and pink façades, colourful stalls and doors, lush vegetation and street art – what more could you want? Soak up the atmosphere and, after wandering around looking for colours, take a seat at one of the tables and enjoy some delicious Tenerife cuisine.

Barbie on a budget at Safestay Holland Park, London

This place is proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to step into Barbie’s world for a while. Safestay Holland Park is a hostel in the Kensington area, right next to Hyde Park in London. You can stay here on a budget but in style. With pink beds, bedding and curtains, and magenta and purple accents in the bathrooms and corridors, you can easily feel like Barbie or Ken on holiday. Although this is a budget hostel, you can relax in the hostel’s own park with a pond, shared lounge and games room and convenient luggage storage. It also has the advantage of being a great location, just four minutes from the closest tube station.

In the area, Notting Hill’s historic pastel cottages fit in perfectly with the Barbiecore trend. You’ll find that the colourful facades of the houses give the whole area a fairytale feel. You’ll find them on Lancaster Road, St Luke’s Mews, Westbourne Park Road, Hillgate Place and Colville Houses. If that’s not enough, Portobello Road has a collection of antique shops and trendy restaurants, and Stanley Gardens has imposing white terraces with colourful doors.

Italian elegance in pink at Eurostars Residenza Cannaregio, Venice

While Venice, the City of Lovers, of a thousand islands and bridges, of galleries with works by world-famous artists, seems to have nothing to do with Barbiecore at first glance, the Eurostars Residenza Canneregio Hotel might change your mind.

Just 15 minutes from St Mark’s Square and the Rialto Bridge, the building’s façade is a subtle, faded shade of warm peachy pink. In photographs, reflected in the greenish water of the Venetian canals, it looks like an advertisement forBarbiecore. Don’t worry though, as Italian class prevails here over the kitsch world of Barbie. Some of the rooms have windows overlooking the water, while others open onto the garden.

After seeing the main Venetian sights, including the Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s Basilica and the Bridge of Sighs, take a stroll through the streets of Canneregio and San Polo, Venice’s most popular neighbourhoods. As well as the famous gondolas, you can also take a taxi or the water tram, with the latter taking youto nearby islands such as Burano.

This fishing village with its colourful houses is a must-see when visiting the Venetian Lagoon. The facades, in shades of pink, blue, yellow, green and orange, were once used by fishermen to guide them home on foggy days. Today they are a major tourist attraction and a wonderful backdrop for photographs. After the tour, dine on Italian specialities such as tiramisu at Riva Rosa, notable for the roses that decorate the front of the restaurant.

Feel the barbiecore in Italian way

Our picks are just a handful of suggestions for a trip full of carefree fun. You’ll find pastel hotels, restaurants and Barbie-style attractions all over the world. Best of luck!
